Bigahara highland museum

A large-scale field museum for sculptures, with about 350 contemporary sculptures all the time exhibited outside created by both domestic and international artists in the grassland of about 132,000 ㎡ with a big 360-degree panorama. In summer, highland plants native to the place will be in their full bloom, for you to enjoy walking our arts like hiking.

Michinoeki (Road station), Bigahara highland

2,000 m high, "Michinoeki" is the last terminal of the Venus line, annexed to "Bigahara highland museum". A large "shopping mall" of it handles a wide variety of goods including locally produced goods in Shinsyu. There are two restaurants with a wide view, "Japanese restaurant, Asanoha (linen leaf)" with the view of Mt. Asama Sakudaira, and "Restaurant Comport" with the view of Northern Alpines, with their "viewing terrace" having a wide landscape, equipped with chairs and tables, and mini-shops providing light meals / cafe, for you to enjoy, relaxed.

Utsukushinotou Tower

"Utsukushinotou Tower is the symbol of Utsukushigahara Highland.
Since Utsukushigahara Highland is often clothed with thick mist and thus has caused many deaths, Utsukushinotou Tower was built to serve as an evacuating tower equipped with fog-bell.
It was built in the center area of Highland in fall, 1954 and rebuilt in 1983.
With the height of 6 meters, it's the largest literary monument in Japan. To the south is Utsukushigahara Volcanic Plateau admired by the nature poet Kihachi Ozaki who loved Utsukushigahara Highland very much. And to the north is buried the relief of Shunichi Yamamoto's face, which was created by Shunsuke Kamijyo, a sculptor from Matsumoto City.
Thanks to Shunichi Yamamoto, cottages and hiking trails were set up. He was highly praised as an unparalleled great man who succeeded to make Utukushigahara and even Yatsugatake-Chūshin Kōgen Quasi-National Park well-known."

Bigahara pasture

A pasture to nurture cows extended on the both sides of Bigahara highland panorama hiking fourse (from Bigahara highland museum to Bigahara nature protection center), with no huts for them like a normal sightseeing pasture, with pastral view of the large glassland of 400ha, on which about 300 cow infants are released from late May to mid Oct.

Mt. Ogatou

With the height of 2,034 meters, Mt. Ogatou is the highest mountain on Utsukushigahara Highland. You can enjoy the splendid views from here on flat land, including Mt. Fuji, Hida Mountains, Kiso Mountains, Akaishi Mountains, Mt. Norikura, Mt. Ontake, Mt. Asama, etc. What's more, there are various kinds of radio masts and towers nearby 。

Mt. Ogahana
