Silk fact, Okaya (museum)
Okaya's silk industry advanced greatly in Meiji / Taisho / Showa eras to lead the modernization of Japan. This is a museum the conveys "Okaya, the city of silk production" to the current age, one very rare nationwide. Matirials on machines and tools concerning breeding silkworms and making silk are contained and exhibited, with such French machine first used in Tomioka silk production factory in Meiji 5 or 1875 is the only one remaining now in Japan. Moreover, the materials contained in the museum were designated as one of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's the legacies of modernization / industrialization in 2007. On Aug 1st 2014, it celebrated renewal pen, with Miyasaka silk factory co., ltd. actually working for you to hands-on watch how silk is produced or machines are in motion. In our community workshop area are "Mayuchan (cocoon) workshop" where you can experience Mayuchan doll, cocoon crafts such as corsage or using hand-sewing machines, "Kaiko (silkworm) communication room" where you can observe how those worms grow up or form their cocoon.
