Mr. Yukio Kitazawa, chairman of “Chino-shi agriculture & sightseeing promotion committee”, tackles “agriculture experience learning” to experience true deliciousness through harvesting vegetables. Committed to food, he has talked about his tasks and dream for us.
What is food for human beings to live on?
The theme for “agriculture experience learning” I conduct is to let children first-hand experience how to grow vegetables and what to eat for human beings to live. In the farm, vegetables are being made without pesticides and organically for them to be able to eat fresh vegetables upon harvesting on the spot. When they actually eat vegetables without pesticides and grown organically to first-hand experience their deliciousness, even ones who couldn’t eat tomato start to ask for “more” of it to eat.
Facing the nature to learn we are living together with it.
For so-called agriculture, we grow vegetables facing various things such as the natural environment, weather or creatures in the nature. I am letting children learn while first-hand experiencing all those things. For example, by harvesting by themselves, they can tangibly sense that “so-called potato will be dug out of the ground like this”; I figure that to learn how to live for human beings while being exposed to the nature is a very wonderful thing.
I want people to know more about Chino through activities that combine nature and agriculture.
Chino has a lot of remains of middle-Jyomon era. I think this is a place abundant in nature for people to be able to live a relaxed life from the ancient time. I hope to be engaged in activities that combining nature and agriculture of Chino will lead to its thriving sightseeing industry, too. It would be nice, if more of people come to know about China and can feel familiar with it.
Striving for the young to feel like to engage in agriculture
Since in organic farming without pesticides, we do not use herbicides or pesticides, the fight against weeds takes more than a bit. But I will strive to lead the children with bright eyes. To realize changing the mind of the young and children for them to feel like to engage in agriculture when they have grown up is my dream. To fulfil your dream means to realize, to which I want to get as close as I can.
